Parent advocacy refers to the assistance and resources provided to parents of children with special needs or disabilities, in order to help them advocate for their child's rights and needs within various systems, such as education, healthcare, and social services. This support can include providing information about relevant laws and policies, helping parents navigate bureaucratic systems, offering emotional support and encouragement, and connecting families with other parents who have similar experiences. At CEYFS, we strive to empower parents to become effective advocates for their children.
Navigating the field of education can be complex and overwhelming. We provide a guided approach to meeting the needs of our families. As such, we provide support for the following:
- Review of educational records
- Assistance with writing and submitting Office of Civil Rights and Florida Department of Education state complaints
- Participation in Section 504 and IEP meetings
